In this blog, we will learn about Behavioral Skills Training

Behavioral Skills Training (BST) is a common teaching procedure used by ABA practitioners.  BST is a systematic teaching approach that can be used with individuals and groups of people.

We’ll share here some of the key features of BST and ways to apply them across settings and people.

What is Behavioral Skills Training?

Imagine having a “go-to” tool in your bag of tricks. A tool that you can use to effectively and efficiently teach new skills to your children, your co-workers, and even your spouse!

Behavioral Skills Training – also known as BST – is a procedure used to do just that.

In life, we all have occasions where we would like to teach someone we know something new.  Perhaps it’s a recipe; maybe it’s how to complete a new spreadsheet at work; it might even be a household chore.

By breaking skills down, showing someone how to do something, practicing, and providing feedback you can do it all!

These uncertain times are asking all of us to do new things in different ways.

Have you been on a Zoom call with your child’s school lately? A new behavior for most of us!

A BST lesson would have made that initial “trial and error” approach much less painful.

At ABI, we use Behavioral Skills Training daily.  From parent support and training to direct instruction, BST helps us be efficient and effective.

As an organization, we practice what we preach when it comes to training our team.  Learn the ins and outs of BST and you can teach anything to anyone!
